Faster first response
Help occupants locate and access the right extinguisher during the early stage of a fire.
Verify whether portable extinguishers are appropriately selected, accessible, identifiable and maintained for the hazards they protect.
Service overview
A fire extinguisher inspection is a structured visual and records-based review of portable fire extinguishers across a facility. It checks whether the apparent type and rating suit the local hazard, units are positioned and accessible, identification is clear, physical condition is acceptable and inspection, refilling or maintenance records are current. It also identifies gaps in coverage and user awareness.
This inspection does not itself refill, recharge, hydrostatically test, dismantle or certify an extinguisher. Those activities must be performed by an authorised and competent service provider under an agreed separate scope.
Business and safety value
Help occupants locate and access the right extinguisher during the early stage of a fire.
Identify apparent mismatches between extinguisher media and nearby fuel or equipment hazards.
Highlight missing tags, overdue servicing indicators, damage and inconsistent inspection records.
Receive location-wise findings that facility teams and service vendors can close systematically.
Our approach
Safety Zest confirms the buildings, floors and special hazards included, then reviews available layouts, inventories and maintenance records. Inspectors walk the agreed areas, locate units, check access and identification, observe visible condition and compare the apparent extinguisher provision with occupancy and hazard information. Findings are recorded by location and discussed with the client. Servicing or refilling is kept distinct unless specifically contracted.
Before mobilisation, the agreed proposal records the locations, records, sampling basis, deliverables and exclusions. This prevents hidden assumptions and helps the site arrange safe access and the right stakeholders.
Audit coverage
| Audit area | What we examine |
|---|---|
| Suitability | Apparent extinguisher medium, rating and relationship to ordinary combustibles, liquids, gases or electrical hazards. |
| Location and access | Visibility, signs, mounting, obstruction, travel considerations and proximity to relevant hazards. |
| Physical condition | Body, hose, nozzle, pin, seal, gauge indication where fitted, corrosion, damage and legibility. |
| Records | Asset identification, inspection tag, service date, refilling or test records and inventory consistency. |
| Special areas | Kitchens, electrical rooms, DG areas, gas banks, workshops, warehouses and other higher-risk locations. |
Methodology
Confirm the facility boundary, occupancy and available extinguisher inventory.
Review drawings or lists, service records and the client’s inspection process.
Inspect each accessible in-scope extinguisher and its immediate location.
Record apparent gaps, damaged units and urgent access or suitability concerns.
Issue a location-wise register with action priorities and vendor follow-up items.

Frequently asked questions
No. Inspection checks visible readiness, suitability, location and records. Servicing may require dismantling, refilling, replacement of components or testing by an authorised service provider.
The proposal defines whether the service is a complete inventory inspection or risk-based sampling. A reliable asset list and safe access help achieve complete coverage.
Yes, the report can identify apparent suitability gaps based on observed hazards. Final selection, quantity and installation should reflect applicable requirements, approved fire strategy and competent design input.
Not unless stated. Hydrants, alarms, pumps, sprinklers and detection systems are normally covered under a broader fire safety audit or fire adequacy survey.
The facility should follow the applicable maintenance standard, manufacturer instructions, fire approval conditions and its risk-based inspection schedule. Additional checks are prudent after use, damage or relocation.
