Service overview

What is Warehouse Safety Audit?

A warehouse safety audit examines the conditions and work practices associated with receiving, unloading, storage, picking, packing, charging, dispatch and maintenance. It focuses on the interfaces that commonly create serious risk: pedestrians and moving vehicles, unstable loads, damaged racking, work at height, docks, conveyor systems, battery charging, fire load and blocked emergency routes.

The service is a safety audit, not a structural certification of racking or lifting equipment. Detailed engineering assessment, load testing, statutory examination and fire-system performance testing require competent specialists and separate scope.

Business and safety value

How does the audit benefit your organisation?

Reduce struck-by risk

Improve separation, routes, crossings, visibility and controls around forklifts and delivery vehicles.

Protect storage integrity

Identify apparent rack damage, unsafe loading, unstable pallets and poor storage practices.

Improve fire readiness

Review fire load, aisle and exit access, ignition controls and emergency arrangements.

Strengthen operations

Connect findings to supervision, inspections, competency, maintenance and contractor controls.

Our approach

How Safety Zest conducts the audit

Safety Zest maps the warehouse flow and reviews the operating pattern, storage methods, equipment, shift profile and recent incidents. The field inspection follows goods from vehicle entry to dispatch and observes representative activities during normal work where possible. Auditors consult operators and supervisors, review inspection and training records, classify findings by risk and present practical controls that suit the site’s layout and operating constraints.

Before mobilisation, the agreed proposal records the locations, records, sampling basis, deliverables and exclusions. This prevents hidden assumptions and helps the site arrange safe access and the right stakeholders.

Methodology

A clear five-stage audit process

  1. 1
    Define

Understand products, storage height, throughput, equipment, shifts and site layout.

  2. 2
    Review

Review traffic plans, rack inspections, operator records, incidents and emergency information.

  3. 3
    Inspect

Observe receiving, movement, storage, picking, charging and dispatch activities.

  4. 4
    Evaluate

Validate significant findings with site representatives and identify immediate controls.

  5. 5
    Report

Issue the risk-ranked report, action tracker and management summary.

Outputs

What you receive

  • Warehouse-process and area-wise observation register
  • Traffic-management and pedestrian-safety findings
  • Racking and storage-condition observations
  • Fire, electrical and battery-charging risk findings
  • Prioritised corrective actions and good-practice notes
  • Photographic report and CAPA tracker where permitted

Frequently asked questions

Questions about warehouse safety audit

Does the audit include warehouse racking?

Yes, visible condition, protection, loading information, housekeeping and inspection arrangements can be reviewed. Suspected structural damage should be assessed by the rack manufacturer or a qualified specialist.

Can forklift operations be observed?

Yes. Normal operations help auditors understand routes, reversing, speed, pedestrian interaction, pre-use checks and loading practices. The client should arrange safe access without disrupting work.

Are cold stores and temperature-controlled warehouses covered?

The scope can be adapted for cold storage, including access, slips, visibility, refrigeration interfaces, emergency release and work practices. Specialist refrigeration integrity testing is separate.

Can several warehouses use one audit framework?

Yes. A common checklist and risk scale can improve comparison across locations while each report retains its local layout, processes and findings.

Will Safety Zest prepare a traffic-management plan?

Audit recommendations can identify gaps. Detailed route design, drawings, signs and implementation support can be added as a consulting scope.
